New Jersey is transitioning from a 4 year licensing cycle to a 2 year cycle. Information relating to this transition is located throughout the Department's web site. During the transition period individuals who are renewing their license after a 4 year period should have completed 48 continuing education credits as before. Individuals renewing their license after a 2 year period should complete 24 credits with 3 of these 24 approved for ethics instruction. In addition individuals who are authorized to sell flood insurance have a one time requirement to take 3 credits in approved course(s) on flood insurance and the National Flood Insurance Program. Those 3 credits are a part of the 24 credit total. For more info click here Continuing Education Requirements:
24 hours of continuing education biennially is required for resident producers, with three of those hours in ethics. For producers selling Flood coverage, the regulation requires 3 hours one time only for flood training.
Non-Resident Requirements:
Must meet home state CE requirements.
Continuing Education Compliance Date:
Continuing education compliance is biennial and tied to the license renewal date. Expirations will be on the last day of the birth month of the individual producer, and on May 31 for business entity licensees.
Types of courses accepted for CE Credit:
Both classroom instruction and independent self study courses are accepted.
Course Subject Requirements:
Credits must be taken in license related courses.
Carryover Requirements:
Carryover of credit hours is not permitted.
Can Courses Be Repeated:
Courses may not be taken for credit more than once every two (2) years.
Final Exam Requirements:
Upon the successful completion of a course examination, which is a passing grade of 70% or better American Institute will mail a state certificate of completion for your records within 5 to 10 business days.
Exemptions:
There are no exemptions in this state.
